Christmas Ornament Fundraiser

Bingle Christmas OrnamentAvailable just in time for Christmas, this would be a great stocking gift for the camper that just cannot wait for summer camp. Also, a great memento for those of us that are beyond camper age, but have great memories of our time at camp.

These precious ornaments will also help us to continue offering low cost camps for all. This ornament will be available on our web site, for those of you that are out of the Fairbanks area or just not able to catch up with us.

Your donation may be matched by Wal-Mart. We are currently awaiting approval, by their matching grants program.

Throughout the month of November or until the ornaments are SOLD OUT, we will be offering this ornament at various sites around Fairbanks.

Bingle Camp awarded a $50,000.00 State Grant!

Bertha - the Bingle RefrigeratorBingle Camp has been awarded a $50,000.00 capital improvement grant from the State of Alaska, with the help of Rep. Jay Ramras. Out with the old...in with the new! Improvements that are going to happen: new appliances and a 100 ft docking system for the waterfront.

Bertha, the refrigerator pictured, is from the 1940s and our stoves are at least 35 years old. To say we are excited about the new improvements is an understatement!

Campers raise $683.00 for Honduras project this summer!

Picture of BallanBingle Campers meet Yeyzon and Ballan. These are the kids that you sponsored from Honduras. Ballan will attend kindergarten and Yeyzon will attend high school.

The following is from Linda Mae Scolman the director of this project.

"This is the 8th year for the Honduras ministry! A total of 64 volunteers (North American and Honduran) participated to make it all happen this summer! Praise God for the willing hearts.

Picture of YeyzonWe had 7 programs this summer, a bike trip and Bible study for the youth, a Bible school for Esperanza, another Bible school. For the area of Chile and Concordia, a Woman’s retreat and Bible study, a Sports Camp for the youth, a medical clinic, and work in the prison.

During the summer we bring in food to the prisoners and do Bible studies and classes. We continue to sponsor students in Esperanza and buy food for their families on a regular basis.

Picture of Bingle YouthThe families of the garbage dump have all moved to a new location. They have left the garbage dumpsite. The municipality designated new land for them and provided supplies at a minimal cost for them to build concrete block homes.

They call the new community "Esperanza" which means, "hope" in Spanish. I was so pleased to visit them this summer and see their homes. They are so proud of them. They have little flower gardens outside trying to make their little home special. The location is low land and very wet. There are no trees for shade which makes it very hot during the day but helps dry up the water after a rain.

The number of children going to school has increased. This next school year we will have close to 50 children in total in school! Six of these are high school students.

The financial help from all of you has made this possible for them.  Praise God for your generosity and kind hearts."

Coming in 2007… "H20 Camp" July 15 - 20th for grades 8 –12

We are planning a new camp for those of you that are totally into the Di-hydrogen Oxide* that is all around camp. This camp will fullfill your desire to spend all your time enjoying our waterfront activities.

All camp activities, electives and play time are water related. Bring your swimming suit or wet suit, because you will get wet!

From the Director...

The ministry that happens at Bingle Camp often takes me by surprise. Ministry happens throughout staff as they try and work together. Some weeks we were tired, and did I mention the constant RAIN! How about the snow the first week of June! God molds us and shapes us. However, after a summer and a long rest, we look back and realize the struggles, hardships and suffering have not been in vain. Campers were ministered too and we did our best to evangelize and witness to the 198 campers (even more if you count the guests) that came through the gates at Bingle Camp this summer.

Our ministry happens with campers, from all over the state; Savoonga, Anchorage, Chalkystik, Venetie, Fairbanks, North Pole, Delta, Nenana, Palmer, Healy and Arctic Village. Sixty-six of the 198 campers that attended Bingle Camp this summer received either partial or full scholarships. Often campers struggle through the same lessons that we as staff learned, how to live together and depend on God.

However, ministry comes at a cost; not just physically and mentally but financially. The state grant and special contributions to our capital account is great news and very encouraging. Unexpected funds, such as the grant, allow us to expand the ministry as we endeavor to provide a quality Christian program. Camper fee’s cover only 50% of our annual operating costs. The remaining 50% is obtained through rentals and donations from various individuals, churches and Yukon Presbytery. We like you, are struggling with the rising costs of everyday living expenses. Our summer staff are paid minimal stipends, since this is a mission opportunity for them. Our administrative costs are kept low because of volunteer support and being frugal. Much of our facility costs are subsidized by volunteers and their generosity.

If you have been ministered to at Bingle Camp (past or present) or know others that have been blessed by the ministry that happens at Bingle Camp, please consider helping us financially and/or with your volunteer support. There are other opportunities to help with camp that do not require working the summer at camp. Committees such as Program, Administrative, Facilities, Publicity or Fundraising need help and we are looking for Board members.

Many blessings to you as you consider what you can offer to help with camp!

Lisa Eldridge
