Requirements:
All positions require individual(s) chosen be able to support the mission statement of Bingle Camp Ministries. Individual will need to reflect Christian commitment and maturity, and be accepting of the Faith Statement of Bingle Camp Ministries.

All staff working at Bingle Camp must be open to the differences within The body of Christ and be willing to work with those various denominational backgrounds and traditions. We wish to avoid issues which detract from ministry therefore you will be required to live and abide by the Bingle Camp staff policy.

Job Descriptions

Counselor

Must have a Christian commitment with an active and vibrant faith, an appreciation for Christian community and be open to differences within the Body of Christ. Will live with a small group of boys or girls. Bingle camp provides campers with a daily elective time each counselor will provide instruction. Electives TBA at the start of summer depending on gifts and talents of staff members. . Responsible for nightly cabin devotions. Responsible for personally adhering to and ensuring that campers follow safety and health regulations, camp procedures, rules and policies. Also responsible for personal enthusiasm and generating goodwill, positive attitudes and cohesion of cabin. May work with a co-counselor or Junior Counselor, which may either be another staff counselor or a volunteer counselor.

Must have the ability & willingness to share about his or her faith and to talk with children of various ages about spiritual matters and concerns. Skills in listening and relating to children are crucial. Small group experience is highly preferred. Experience working with children is essential. Knowledge of games which build cooperation and team building are also valued. Must be willing to live in close proximity with other people in a rustic setting. Must be in good health. Minimum age 18 years.

In addition, we are also seeking the following Counselor Specialists with these skills:

Camp Counselor/Canoe &/or Sailing Specialist
Knowledge of lake and river canoe skills and techniques. Teach and instruct various aged children on the safe use of canoes and sequential canoe skills. River experience is required. Experience leading canoe trips is preferred. Will assist with local adult volunteer whom does extensive canoe experience. The camp has an Aqua Cat Catamaran and small single sail-racing sailboat. Knowledge of lake sailing helpful.

Camp Counselor/Arts & Crafts
Organize, develop and implement crafts in conjunction with the camp's theme and children's ages.

Camp Counselor/Music Specialist
Responsible for singing component of camp, incorporating music into camp schedule. Ability to lead singing, including teaching new songs, knowledge of Christian songs and fun songs imperative; ability to create worshipful atmosphere highly desired. Ability to play guitar or keyboard in front of groups for group singing also highly desired, but not mandatory, as other staff may have guitar skills.

Counselor/Archery Specialist
Set up archery range. Instruct campers in proper use and technique of bow and arrows. Ensure safety protocol is used. Archery Certification desired.

Waterfront Leader/Counselor
Must have current Standard Lifeguard Certificate. Serves as lifeguard for swimming and canoeing sessions. Must ensure safe and sane behavior in waterfront area, record and keep track of waterfront equipment, develop games and other recreational ideas for use on waterfront. Must also supervise special events such as rental groups. Experience with canoes and sailing highly desired.

Program Leader/Counselor
The Program Leader/Counselor is responsible for the development and delivery of the Bingle Memorial Camp programs. She/he recruits and supervises all program staff and volunteers, and is responsible to the Board of Directors. When the camp is in operation, Program Leader/Counselor is expected to lead and to provide oversight for the day-to-day function of the camp program. Annual job term is April through September.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Have a Christian commitment and a willingness to support and promote the Mission of the camp.
  2. Willing to live at camp during camp operation.
  3. Able to relate in a positive manner with campers and staff.
  4. Must have experience in Christian education or camping programs.
  5. Have effective communication and team building skills.
  6. Be at least 25 years old.
  7. Possess a valid driver's license.
  8. Keep a Bingle Board of Directors representative informed of problems or potential problems, needs and successful events at camp.

Facility Manager
The Facility Manager is responsible for the general management of the facility of Bingle Memorial Camp during the camping season. She/he supervises kitchen staff and volunteers, and is responsible to the Program Leader/Counselor. When the camp is in operation the Facility Manager is expected to have an active involvement and provide oversight for the day-to-day functioning of camp. Must be at least 25 years of age and posses a valid driver's license. CPR and First Aid Certificate a must. Position also requires capability of buying supplies for operation of camp.

Outdoor Skills Leader/Counselor
He/She is responsible for the outdoor aspects of Bingle’s Camp. Must have a desire/capability to share with children about nature and habitats, which surround the camp. Must have ability to teach and implement survival type skills such as cooking outdoors, orienteering, hiking and exploring the great outdoors. Must also be able to assist with electives and have prepared class options. CPR and First Aid Certificate required.

Cook
Must have experience cooking and baking for large groups. Ability to cook for groups from 30 – 200. Must be able to follow menu and adapt recipes as needed. Cook and facility manager prepares menus. Coordinates with facility manager to develop buying lists. Must have working knowledge of safe food handling practices. Bonus given if Cook holds a Food Manager card.

Assistant Cook
Assists in food preparation, working with cook and facility manager. Must have some previous kitchen experience, aged 18 + and obtain an Alaska Safe food certification.

Health Care Provider/Counselor
Administer camper's prescriptions and medications. Takes care of any first aid needs that arise. Refer campers and staff to appropriate medical care and intervention, i.e. Emergency Room, Doctor, send home, etc. as needed. Takes care of homesick children, children with minor ailments, stomachaches, sprained ankles, headaches etc. with TLC. Keep records of all nurse visits, injuries and medications given. May assist in the kitchen as needed and other aspects of the program as time and interest dictates.
